He was Shot. He Stood for the President. Then He was Attacked Online. His Response is Flawless

Thomas Gunderson, who was shot in the leg during the attack at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday, was visited in the hospital by President Donald Trump and the first lady on Wednesday. He posted a video of the meeting, showing him standing up to shake the president’s hand even with his injury.

As reported by the Independent Journal Review, Gunderson posted the video on Facebook with the comment, “I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!”

Since the post went live, and the accompanying video went viral, Gunderson faced a “backlash” for showing his support for Trump.

In response, Gunderson posted another statement on his Facebook account, explaining his position.

Gunderson stated, “Hey everyone! So when I decided to post the things that I did, as well as accept some interviews, I did so with the intention of spreading an uplifting message during this horrific time in our country. I prepared my family beforehand knowing that there would be plenty of backlash and hateful comments. I asked for everyone to leave the negativity out of it but let’s be honest, I know that wouldn’t happen. So, with that being said, I’m asking that anytime someone does leave a hateful or aggressive comment that we simply ignore them.”

He goes on to say, “They want to get a rise out of us. They want to cause divide and when we respond with hate as well, it simply worsens the situation and destroys the meaning behind this message. I will do my best to respond to the ones I can with complete class and love. Let’s continue to bring our nation together instead of fight with those simply looking to fight. I’m asking that as a favor for everyone reading my posts.”

Gunderson closes his Facebook post by saying, “Thank you so much for the love and I love all of you!!!”

God bless you young man may God heal you soon and you have a peaceful and prosperous life

  3. Well said, It’s refreshing to have someone say the things I believe in. Doesn’t matter if you don’t like the president or not, you need to respect the office, United states the flag, our anthem and the great way of life that this affords us. It’s what you make of it. I came from a large family with not a lot of money. We have all made our way in this world and worked hard for everything we have .No one gave us anything. always a way if you work hard. And for all the people who think it’s just the white people who feel this way, my family is white, Black, Filipino, and American Indian. So you have to think about who your calling names and why. So sad that people want to make the divide bigger instead of working to pull this great nation together.

  4. Great things you represent. You’ve probably heard this, but you could sell ice cream to an Eskimo.
